Hey there, I'm
Hannah
I have been fully immersed in the world of literature ever since I was a child. We would go to the library every week and I would fill a bag of books to read, return, and repeat the following week. It’s only natural that writing and editing followed suit.
Like many others, I thought the world of literature had to remain a hobby. It wasn’t until after college, and time in an unfulfilling career, that I found a way back to literature at Myth & Verity, Inc.
- Proofreader for 2019 Richard Snyder Prize winner
- MFA in Creative Writing—Ashland University (2025 expected)
- Literary Publishing Certificate—American River College
I want to make your words shine!
To me, editorial work is more than just a chance to clean up errors and add in clarity; editorial work is a chance to make an author’s words shine. Each story is unique and deserves the attention needed to make it resonate with its audience. Even though I read voraciously as a child, I didn’t see someone like myself among the pages until my early twenties. I’ll never forget the teenager and young adult who was trying desperately to find herself within the pages of the literature I loved, but couldn’t. I want to support and uplift work for that younger version of me, for all the others out there feeling the same way I did, and do. Every story deserves to be told in its best light.
Outside of my editorial work, I spend time writing my own poetry and fiction between trying to complete my master’s degree and chasing a toddler around a house full of animals.
Education & Experience
Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing
Ashland University
- Expected Graduation — May 2025
At Ashland University, I’ve taken the time to immerse myself in the world of poetry. Until college, poetry seemed inaccessible and pretentious, but I’ve since learned that poetry is inherent to prose and they cannot exist without each other. Poetry is precise and utilizes language in a hyper-specific tone which has impacted my editing style to where I know look for places where prose can benefit from the same features as poetry without detracting from the narrative.
Graduate Publishing Apprentice
Ashland Poetry Press
- Active 2019–2020
Being hand-selected to work with the Ashland Poetry Press remains one of the defining experiences in my professional life. Not only did I sort through the slush pile for the Richard Snyder Prize, but I had the fortune to proofread the 2019 winner’s manuscript before publication.
Literary Publishing Certificate
American River College
- Associate Editor in Chief, American River Review — 2019
- Managing Fiction Editor, American River Review — 2018
Learning the intricacies of publishing firsthand is an opportunity I wish more writers had a chance to experience, even if their end goal isn’t working in publishing. My coursework at American River College, as part of American River Review and Ad Lumen Press, covered everything from writing and formatting fiction, to the different stages of editing and proofreading, to the final aspects when worthing with authors to print their words through differing media.
Bachelor of Arts in Earth Science
California State University, Sacramento
- Graduated May 2017
Science and literature have always been simultaneous passions for me. My science background is a well-rounded overview of all scientific disciplines, traditionally aimed at teaching general science coursework. This education enables me to work with any manuscript that has a scientific aspect to it—for example, is a castle made out of pure quartz even practical?
